We have an exciting opportunity within our busy Product Team, based at our Head Office in Milton Keynes for an Assistant Fabric Technologist looking to work across outdoor apparel and accessories, covering multiple product categories including waterproof jackets, walking trousers, and active jersey tops.
This role would suit a graduate or similar, looking for their first role within a garment or fabric textiles team.
The role
The Assistant Fabric Technologist will support the Materials Team with the sourcing, development and production of fabrics for Rohan, on time and in line with the agreed strategy for each product and category, ensuring maximised profit margins and adhering to Rohan brand and quality standards throughout. The Assistant Fabric Technologist will assist the Product team on handling fabric development from initial concept through to production.
Key Objectives
- Support the Product and Materials Teams on developing and delivering leading performance materials aligned to seasonal briefs.
- Ensure that allocated work and projects meet Rohan performance attributes, testing, and sustainability.
- Support the team on inputting accurate fabric information on the Range Grid ensuring information is updated and aligned with information in the BOM, Commercial sheets, testing results and latest sample
- Ensure allocated work is delivered to a high standard and on time and work with Materials team to understand and achieve target costs
- Support the team to maintain and collate fabric commercial and technical specification sheets
- Ensure all lab dips are tracked and approved and maintain filing, archive and library of all fabric lab dips
- Think innovatively and proactively at all stages of the research and development process
- Maintain knowledge and expertise in the latest technical developments in fibre, finishes, construction and market trends
- Support the team on Lab testing ensuring processes are followed and results are clearly documented, tracked and shared
- Support the team on the fabric and trim Wear Test programme
- Support the team on tracking and documenting bulk submissions
- Ensure that suppliers have clear information and specs that allow them to deliver fabrics that meet Rohan requirements
- Support on updating the materials manual with relevant test standards, applications, compliance and regulations required for our brand standards
- Support the team on tracking and documenting factory inspections and any follow up actions
- Support on ensuring MOQ's, leadtimes, costs, surcharges and production requirements are clearly documented and communicated throughout the development and production process, internally and with suppliers
General
- Support the team to research and prepare presentations for fabrics in a clear, concise and professional manner
- Support the Materials Team with ad-hoc reporting, analysis and projects as and when required
- Support the team on preparing for meetings and any follow up documentation or actions
- Participate in weekly reviews within the product team to ensure products are on track and any updates, changes and approvals are actioned
- Build strong and synergistic relationships with cross functional partners and key stakeholders
- Continuously develop a clear understanding and knowledge of Rohan brand standards, including logo and branding treatments and rules; and expected performance, finish and construction standards
- Continuously build understanding and knowledge of MOQ's to avoid surcharges and delivery issues throughout the process, continuously develop understanding and adherence to the critical path
Key Requirements & Skills:
- Educated to degree level or similar in Textile related field
- Interest in the outdoors and travel is a benefit
